Designer Priscilla Shunmugam became the first representative from the fashion industry to receive The Outstanding Young Alumni Award at The National University of Singapore’s (NUS) Alumni Awards 2015.
The prestigious Awards recognise alumni who have excelled locally and internationally, and have made significant contributions to the University and society. Priscilla read law at NUS and graduated in 2006 before ending her legal career in 2008. She then spent a year in England studying dressmaking and pattern-cutting before returning to Singapore in 2009 to develop the label Ong Shunmugam.
Said Simon Chesterman, Dean, NUS Faculty of Law, of the honour, “Priscilla Shunmugam is a wonderful example of someone who identified her passion and pursued it to international acclaim as well as professional success. Though she may not be using her degree to practise law as such, I would like to think that the critical and analytical skills that she honed in law school serve her well in her chosen path as a designer and entrepreneur. NUS Law celebrates her achievements, as well as the fact that she has continued an interest in supporting pro bono activities to help the less fortunate.”
